“It’s so wonderful to be back at the re-opened Natural History Museum,” the Duchess of Cambridge said today, as she declared that she will announce the 56th Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the storied South Kensington landmark on 13 October. Pictured standing in the grand Hintze Hall, Kate, who is patron of the museum, looked polished in a tuxedo jacket.

The sharp silhouette of the black crepe blazer was perfect for the virtual broadcast. Kate’s glossy waves—impeccably blown out as per—hit the silk lapel on her jacket and framed her sweet pearl earrings. She was the picture of professionalism, just when the afternoon’s Covid-19 broadcasts were outlining whether or not the Duchess’s future work and social engagements will be conducted solely via Zoom.

The Duchess commended this year’s photographers for sharing the “magic of the natural world, and for reminding us that caring for our environment and its precious biodiversity has never been more important”. The pictures, which explore the “beauty and vulnerability of life on our planet”, have no doubt been a source of joy for the Duchess during an often bleak news cycle.

Separately, some good news for fans of the Duchess’s immaculate suiting, much of which she procures through her long-standing relationship with Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton: Matchesfashion.com has just launched a McQueen tailoring capsule. The edit of six timeless womenswear suits features reworked heritage designs from the brand’s archives, including a black evening suit similar to the Duchess’s, but boasting magnificent embroidery and crystal detailing. Every cloud, Kate proves, has a satin lining.
