NEW DELHI: A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will assemble on Sunday for a special hearing on noted journalist

Vinod Dua

’s plea for quashing of multiple FIRs lodged in different states against him for alleged misreporting during the communal violence in the capital in February and spreading fake news through his YouTube show.
Although the Delhi high court, in an interim order, stayed probe in a case lodged against Dua by BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar and the trial court directed that no coercive steps be taken against him, he was subsequently summoned by Himachal Pradesh police on a complaint lodged in Shimla.
Dua, thereafter, rushed to SC seeking quashing of FIRs filed against him in different states and he also pleaded the court to frame some guidelines so that journalists are not harassed by way of multiple FIRs
A bench of Justices U U Lalit,

M M Shantanagoudar

and Vineet Saran will hear Dua’s plea through video conference at 11 am.
The Delhi HC

had on Wednesday stayed the investigation against Dua on an FIR lodged against him on June 5.
The HC had passed the order on Dua’s plea seeking quashing of the FIR. Dua had contended that the FIR filed against him was mala

fide

and the Delhi Police initiated “malicious prosecution” against him on the basis of a complaint after 75 days, without any evidence.
