JAMMU: Six people are feared dead after their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in J&K’s mountainous
district on Friday.
On receiving information about the accident, the local administration, police and Army launched a massive search operation to trace the vehicle. “The damaged parapets and crumbled vegetation indicate that the vehicle skidded near Slipper Morh, an area — as its name suggests — prone to slipping and skidding,” according to a police source.
Six passengers, including the driver of the vehicle, went missing and are feared dead after the vehicle skidded off the road and apparently rolled down and plunged into the Chenab river, Kishtwar district development commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara told TOI over the phone.
Tara also visited the accident spot at Paddar and took stock of the ongoing rescue-and-search operation. “A joint team of SDRF, Army, police and local volunteers is on job to trace the missing persons but till late evening no trace of any person was found,” he said.
With low-light conditions hampering the operation on Friday evening, the rescue efforts will resume on Saturday morning.
