The Supreme Court on Sunday issued notices to the Centre and the Himachal Pradesh government in a plea by journalist Vinod Dua seeking quashing of FIR against him in connection with a video uploaded by him on YouTube criticising the central government’s implementation of lockdown.

A three-judge bench, which held a special sitting on Sunday, to hear Dua’s plea, granted him protection from arrest till the next date of hearing but allowed the state police to continue with the probe.

The top court turned down Dua’s plea for stay on the first information report and directed that he should cooperate with the investigation. It further said that the police will have the liberty to interrogate him at his residence in Delhi after giving a 24-hour notice.

Vikas Singh, Dua’s counsel, had vehemently pressed for a stay stating that allowing the probe to continue in a flimsy case like this one will send wrong signals.

The FIR is regarding a video uploaded by Dua on March 30 on the online video streaming platform, YouTube, which criticises the central government for its implementation of the national lockdown.
