NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to defer Civil Services (Prelims) Examination scheduled for October 4, saying this all-India test could be safely conducted if

the Union Public Services Commission

(UPSC) had successfully conducted National Defence Academy examinations involving five

lakh Class XII students

in September.
Surprisingly, there was not a single petition filed in the SC seeking cancellation or postponement of the NDA examination. A bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar, B R Gavai and

Krishnamurari

told the petitioners: “You are aspiring to be civil servants and yet you are behaving like students”.
The bench asked additional solicitor general S V Raju to impress upon the Centre to consider giving an

additional chance

to those candidates who would be age barred or lose their last chance if they could not appear in this year’s examination.
