Getting hacked is all the rage in fashion. R13’s Chris Leba handed over his resort 2022 collection to photographer Maria Tomanova and model partners Kate Vitamin and Odie Marie. On a spring day, two giant suitcases of R13 garments appeared at Vitamin and Marie’s apartment; Kate styled herself and her spouse while Tomanova photographed them throughout their day: eating, lounging, showering, and hanging out. The images have a welcome rawness—it’s sort of funny how after a year of at-home fashion, other brand’s lookbooks have only gotten more polished and more proper. R13 has always been about channeling a rebellious grungy energy; Vitamin and Marie actually live that lifestyle.
As for the clothing itself, Leba wasn’t around to expound on its meaning—although longtime fans will know his signatures well enough. There are overtones of Nirvana grunge and The Cure post-punk throughout, as well as aggressive bright leopard prints and oversized mega jeans. Sweatshirts read “Fuck You” or “Girls Girls Girls.” The best new pieces the almost spherical shearlings and bomber jackets, on the same wavelength as Yeezy Gap’s debut piece. That bubble silhouette is proving to be a small trend among recent collections; let’s see if people are keen to dress that way when these clothes hit stores. With his willing participation in this seasonal hacking, Leba guarantees at least three cool customers for resort.
