SRINAGAR: J&K government on Thursday revoked
Public Safety Act
detention orders against two mainstream politicians – Naeem Akther of PDP and Hilal Lone of NC. Both the leaders were detained following the nullification of
Article 370
on August 5 last year but PSA was slapped on them in February this year.
Akther held a ministerial berth during the BJP-PDP coalition government before 2018. Hilal is the son of NC’s Baramulla MP Akbar Lone and is hardly counted among the prominent leaders of the party.
On Tuesday (June 16), J&K high court had quashed the PSA detention order against NC functionary Ali Muhammad Sagar.
The two topmost functionaries of NC,
Farooq Abdullah
and his son
Omar Abdullah
, were released from detention separately earlier this year after the government revoked PSA against them.
Now, with the release of Akther and Lone, former chief minister and PDP president
Mehbooba Mufti
is the only mainstream politician left detained under PSA.
