PM Modi to visit US from September 22-26; Quad, UNGA, talks with Biden on agenda

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a five-day visit to the United States from September 22-26, foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla announced on Monday.
Giving a broad itinerary of the visit, Shringla said the Prime Minister will meet US President Joe Biden for bilateral talks on September 24.
Shringla said that PM Modi and Biden are expected to discuss how to bolster trade and investment ties, strengthen defence and security collaborations, boost clean energy partnership among others issues.

"The meeting will also feature current regional security situation following developments in Afghanistan. We would discuss the need to stem radicalisation, extremism, cross-border terrorism & dismantling of global terror networks," he said during a media briefing.
He said that Modi will also meet US Vice President Kamal Harris for their first formal interaction.
Shringla said that PM Modi will participate in the Covid-19 Global Summit hosted by US President Biden on September 22.

During his visit, PM Modi will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including external affairs minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
He said the main elements of the viist will be the first in-person meeting with US President, the Quad leaders summit which also involved the prime ministers of Australia and Japan as well as the address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
