NHAI adopts tech to alert delays & disputes

The National Highways Authority of India

(NHAI) has adopted IT in to get advance alerts of likely delays and


in project execution.
The premier highway construction agency has launched “Data Lake” and “Project Management” software to make the entire work flow online. An NHAI spokesperson said with this all project documentation, contractual decisions and approvals are now being done through portal only.
“This adoption of technology will expedite decision making and will also facilitate in taking timely decisions as the system is likely to predict financial impacts of different alternatives based on the historical data. This will also reduce disputes,” the spokesperson said.
NHAI has a history of having large number of arbitration cases pending with huge amount of claims and counter claims. Majority of the disputes are due to delay in handing over of encumbrance free land, shifting of utilities, idling charges of plant, machinery, equipment, manpower and delay in decisions.
“The complete project documents and correspondences will be stored in digital format in the cloud-based ‘Data Lake’ linked with


tagging and unique project ID, so that the project data can be easily retrieved as and when required from any location. All contractors, concessionaires, consultants, authority engineers, independent engineers and NHAI’s project directors and regional officers have started using it,” the spokesperson said.
