Microsoft employees can work from home (or anywhere) forever

has reportedly announced that it is allowing its employees to work from home permanently. As per a report by The Verge, Microsoft has sent an “internal guidance” to its employees explaining that they can either opt for work from home for “less than 50% of their working week” or can even get approvals from their manager to work remotely forever. However, a lot depends on the role of employee and not everyone will be able to take the work from home forever.

can also relocate in any part of the country or even shift to some other country altogether. Having said that the perks, salary and other benefits will differ if someone relocates to a new region and will be as per the company’s regional pay policies. The company will also help employees to set up their offices at home and will cover the costs. Another interesting aspect is that employees will be able to choose their own working hours and no approval would be needed from any manager for the same. They can even request part-time working hours.

has also told staff whose job can be done from home that they can do so until at least October 2, pushing out the timeline on a return to work for many employees as it faces scrutiny over conditions in its warehouses, as per a recent report by Reuters.
In India, IT and telecom minister

said at a meeting of G20 ministers recently that the work from home being practised during the ongoing coronavirus-induced lockdown might become a trend in coming days. IT industry veteran Senapathy (Kris) Gopalakrishnan also said that more than one million information technology employees are expected to continue to work from home even after the coronavirus-inflicted lockdown situation returns to normalcy.
