The update was announced by the company via a blog post. The new features are available for both
and iOS users. Here’s a look at all the features rolling out to Telegram users
The latest Telegram update brings 8 new themes for individual chats. These themes come with gradient message bubbles, animated backgrounds and background patterns. Users will be able to set different themes for different chats.
To set a theme for Telegram chat on Android, tap on the Chat Header > ⋮ > Change Colors. iOS users can head to the Chat Header > ⋯ > Change Colors.
Telegram says it will introduce more themes in the future.
Read receipts on group and animated emoji
Telegram has also introduced animated emojis with fullscreen effects. The animations and vibrations, Telegram says, will play simultaneously on both the sender’s and receiver’s devices.
Group messages, with the new update will be marked as read (✓✓) as soon as one other member sees them. For small groups, users can also select a message to see which group members have read it.
Telegram says that it will store read receipts for 7 days only.
Record live streams and video chats
The new update also brings the ability for the Telegram users to record live streams and video chats. The feature will be available for Group admins who can also publish them for those who missed the live version. Admins will have the option to either record both video and audio or only audio.
They will also be able to choose orientation for the final video file- portrait or landscape. Once the recording is finished, the file is instantly uploaded to Saved Messages. To let other users know about the recording, Telegram will show a red dot next to the title of the broadcast.
