While she's been spending time at home, Deepika Padukone has been doubling down on her skincare routine. Her glowy skin is the result of her commitment to a multiple-step routine, which includes taking off her makeup, using sunscreen “twice a day” and a night cream to hydrate the skin. “I am most particular about removing all my makeup and keeping my skin clean before I go to bed. No matter how tired I am or how hectic my day has been, I always make it a point to take it off,” she told Vogue India in 2017. She's also always loved clay masks (like the L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Mask) to brighten and purify the skin. “It works wonders and leaves my skin feeling fresh, healthy and hydrated in just 10 minutes,” she shared.
Now, while in lockdown, she added a face roller to her repertoire to improve lymphatic drainage and circulation too. The rolling motion pushes the product into the skin, forcing it into the cells rather than letting it stay on the surface, and helps to minimise pores and benefit cell turnover.
Her latest addition to the skincare routine? A tightening and hydrating foil mask. “Gearing up for the weekend...🥳 #selfie #selflove #selfcare”, shared Padukone, with a photo of herself luxuriating in the mask while in bed.
Foil masks, like the cult-favourite Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask boast moisturising and hydrating properties. They usually contain a double dosage of hyaluronic acid that sinks into the skin to plump and lubricate, reducing dryness and soothing flaky bits. Hydrated skin also reduces the appearance of wrinkles, which makes skin look more taut. Hyaluronic acid helps wounds faster by reducing inflammation levels, and also helps signalling the body to build more blood vessels in the damaged area.
While this is true for all sheet masks, foil is a particularly ideal material if you want to force-feed your skin with moisture. Since it a heavier than cotton or biocellulose (the most common face mask materials), there's no direction for the viscous serum to go except your skin, and it prevents any of it from evaporating. The foil acts like a barricade, warming the skin and trapping the heat, allowing the fluid to penetrate deeper.
