JAMMU: Alert was sounded late Sunday night after four drones were spotted at separate locations in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Four drones were spotted between 2200 hours to 2240 hours at different locations of Samba district," police sources said.
They said that the flying objects were spotted hovering over military establishments twice at Bari Brahmana, once at Smailpur-Bishnah Road and Birpur areas falling under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahamna Police Station in Samba district.
"However Army troops did not open fire but sounded alert and kept watch on the flying objects," they said. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) of the Indian Army launched search operations in the area.
"The flying objects disappeared later, they said.
A similar suspected drone activity was noticed at the same spot on Saturday as well.
At around 2018 hours, another suspected drone activity was spotted in the Chichwal and Ghagwal areas of the district.
“As per locals the blinking light - probably of a drone - was spotted near Bhalwal in Pargwal village close to the International Border at Akhnoor,” police said.
Drones with blinking lights were also spotted thrice at different locations in bordering Samba district on Thursday night.
“Activities were reported near Army Camp, Bari Brahmana, Sandi village near ITBP Camp, Ghagwal and border area village Chalarian Samba.”
The incident comes after almost a week when Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have achieved major success by foiling a terror plot by the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit, by shooting down a hexacopter (drone) with a Improvised Explosive Device weighing about 5-kgs near International Border (IB) at Kanachak of Akhnoor district.
