NEW DELHI: For the second time within a month, Prime Minister

Narendra Modi

has asked different ministries and departments to fix responsibilities for delay in completion of infrastructure projects.
While chairing the

Pragati

meeting with all secretaries in the Central government and chief secretaries from states on Wednesday, PM asked the railway ministry to fix the responsibility for delay in completion of a rail project which was sanctioned in 2008-09, sources said.
In the Pragati meeting held on January 27, PM had also asked the railway ministry to fix the responsibilities of officials from Central and state governments for delays in execution of another project in

Andhra Pradesh

and

Karnataka

, sources said.
The PM had asked the Central and state government departments to assign and fix responsibilities of all agencies and officers for delay in project execution while expressing concern over the delay in completion of infrastructure projects since these cause “national loss”, which TOI had first reported on January 29.
Officials said while reviewing the progress of 45 km rail line connecting Sivok in Darjeeling (West Bengal) with Rangpo in East

Sikkim

district on Wednesday, Modi asked the ministry to hold the officials accountable for the delay. The 41.5 km of the rail railway line falls in

West Bengal

and the rest 3.4 kms falls in Sikkim. Sources said the project may get completed in 2022.
While addressing officials from the infrastructure ministries and heads of major private sector players on February 16, the PM had also urged all government agencies and private stakeholders to see that there is “no loss to the nation due to delay” in implementation of projects.
