SRINAGAR: A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was arrested along with four of his associates in north Kashmir’s
“Acting on information regarding cross-border smuggling of weapons and war-like stores by terrorist associates and their further delivery to
, a search operation was launched late on Monday jointly by
, Army’s 28RR and CRPF’s 162 Bn,” a police spokesperson said.
“During the operation, one active HM terrorist identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat of Kupwara’s Lalpora Lolab area was arrested. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle and a Chinese pistol with magazines were recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson said.
The team also apprehended four of Bhat’s associates, identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir of Hajibal Narizeb Kalarooch; Ghulam Mohammad Kohli of Warnnow Lolab;

of Gujjarpati Bandipora and Abdul Qayoom Gujjar of Khenura in Bandipora. “Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one pistol, 60 AK rounds, two pistol magazines, 12 pistol rounds and one pouch were recovered from the four,” the spokesperson added.
“As per police records, the HM affiliates were tasked with providing logistic support and transporting arms, ammunition to the outfit’s active terrorists operating in Kashmir Valley. They were also involved in establishing contact with active terrorist commanders — Riyaz and Amjad of Bandipora, currently operating at Sonar launch pad as depot commanders — for smuggling and supply of weapons to terrorists active in the Valley,” the spokesperson said.
Lalpora Police registered a case under relevant sections of law in this connection and an investigation was underway.
