A division bench of MP high court has issued notices to the state government in response to a petition challenging the legality of Freedom of

Religion

Act. The petitioner, a

Bhopal

resident, has sought quashing of the law, contending that it was in violation of Article 14, 19, 21 and 25 of the Constitution. The act, popularly known as ‘

love jihad

’ law, provides for an imprisonment from three to 10 years if anyone forces a person to convert his/her religion through marriage.
