On Thursday evening, the rain all but cleared just in time for cocktail hour at Gucci’s mid-summer dinner party in East Hampton. For one night only, Gucci transformed the upper-level of Sí Sí, EHP Resort’s new waterfront restaurant, into an oasis. Co-hosts Casey Fremont, the executive director of the Art Production Fund, and Gucci’s chief executive officer, Susan Chokachi, rose a glass to celebrate the brand’s commitment to expanding awareness about and supporting contemporary public art projects from the Seven Magic Mountains in Las Vegas to Sanford Biggers’ “Oracle” housed in the heart of New York City in Rockefeller Center.
Bouquets of blooming dahlias and blue wildflowers lined the tables, which were outfitted with mixed and matched Gucci dining chairs. Naturally, Gucci-printed napkins adorned each place setting to complement the tablescape’s summery floral scheme.\
As the sun peeked through the ominous clouds, guests including Athena Calderone, Bianca Jebbia, Claire Olshan, Lili Buffett, Tamu McPherson, and Gucci Westman gathered on the porch to gaze out over the megayachts in the marina and gab about end of summer plans. Of course, Gucci’s highly anticipated show, which is set for November 3 in Los Angeles, was a hot topic.
The menu was equally fresh and light, featuring Mediterranean classics with a local twist like octopus à la plancha with piquillo peppers, striped bass dressed with chickpeas, and roasted chicken topped with Sicilian capers and feta. In between courses, guests jumped from table to table, eager to chat with colleagues and fashion folk dressed in head-to-toe Gucci, of course.
For the final tasting of the evening, scoops of homemade mandarin sorbet and decadent chocolate cake arrived at every table. Off the menu, a torrential downpour surprised guests upon departure, allowing the lovely evening to last a little bit longer inside the new restaurant. While the evening’s weather turned wet, the weekend’s clear forecast will serve as the perfect occasion to debut the sleek aviator or groovy, oversized sunnies gifted to each guest. Grazie, Gucci!
