NEW DELHI: The government has started the preparation of projects which can be dedicated to the nation around August 15, 2022 when India celebrates its 75th year of independence.
The Prime Minister’s Office has sought details from infrastructure and economic affairs ministries by Friday, well two years in advance, so that none of the listed projects “India@75 package” miss any deadline.
“Projects which are expected to be completed in the second half of 2022 may be expedited, to the extent possible, so as to advance the completion date on or before August 15, 2022. Likewise, projects which are expected to be completed in the first half of 2023 may be expedited to the extent possible, so as to complete the project in 2022 itself,” the PMO has told nearly two dozen ministries including railway, road, shipping, civil aviation, urban affairs, commerce and finance.
Some of the ministries have also been asked to provide details of the major policy decisions and reforms that have been implemented in the past six years since the Narendra Modi government came to power.
The message of expediting projects is being seen as a move to put greater focus on advancing the completion of projects and programmes. Officials said this means there will be keen monitoring of the progress of projects.
Recently, the cabinet Secretariat had asked each ministry to set the timelines for implementation of all cabinet decisions since June 2014. Sources said this is being done to ensure that all the projects started during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure are completed.
