has got vehicle icons. Google has added this feature to Android with the latest Google Maps version 10.52.2 update for Android, as per a
by 9to5Google. Interestingly, the feature has been available on iPhones for quite some time now.
With this update, you can now change your vehicle icon from the “arrow” to a red car, a green pickup truck and a yellow SUV. This is a kind of surreptitious rollout by Google and many beta users of Google Maps may not even have known that they could change the vehicle icon to one of the three mentioned above.
When you start navigating in the Maps app, tap the arrow icon and then you can change the vehicle. As you may expect, the feature has been there on iOS for a while. When you start driving, the icon will turn, spin and change course in real-time just like the arrow does in Maps.
Going by the looks of it, it is just a small tweak.
Google had earlier added a COVID layer to Maps, "a tool that shows critical information about COVID-19 cases in an area so you can make more informed decisions about where to go and what to do.”
To use the feature in Maps, users have to tap on the layers button that will be on the right hand corner of their screens. Here they will see a COVID-19 info tab which needs to be tapped. Users will be able to see “a seven-day average of new COVID cases per 100,000 people for the area of the map you’re looking at, and a label that indicates whether the cases are trending up or down,” as per a blog post by Google.
