Karwar: Former Union minister and Uttara Kannada MP Ananth Kumar Hegde has called

BSNL employees

"traitors" who are working against the interests of the country. He also threatened that the Centre will "finish" BSNL with its

disinvestment

policy.
"We're doing a major surgery to BSNL and will bring it on track by privatising it," Hegde said, adding that the telco's service is very poor in several parts of

Karnataka

. On Monday, at an event, in his constituency, Hegde said many people have complained about lack of BSNL network in their villages. "I don't get a BSNL signal in my

official quarters

in Delhi. It has become a blot on this country," he said.
"During my last meeting in Karwar, I told BSNL staff: 'You are not officers, you are traitors'. BSNL has infrastructure, government funding, but these officials don't work. We're removing around 85,000 BSNL employees and more will be dismissed soon."
