Supreme Court Questions Andhra Over Class 12 Exam

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court on Thursday warned the Andhra Pradesh government - which has not yet cancelled Class 12 board exams because of the Covid pandemic - that the death of even one student would mean it has to pay compensation of Rs 1 crore.

The top court - hearing a plea for cancellation of the board exam in the state - has directed the state to submit a report that identifies the individual or government body that took the decision to hold exams during the pandemic, and if all concerns had been examined before that decision was taken.

The court also ordered the Andhra Pradesh government to explain how 5.2 lakh students could be seated in only 34,000 rooms - given the need for social distancing.

The state government had said between 15 and 18 students would be allowed to sit in each room.
