NEW DELHI: The coronavirus tally of cases in India stood at 3,80,532 on Friday while the death toll rose to 12,573. In some positive news, the number of recoveries crossed the two lakh mark and stands at 2,04,710, while there are 1,63,248 total Covid-19 active cases, according to the updated official figure at 8 am. One patient had migrated.Here are the updates —
1BENGALURU Nearly 6 lakh students sighed with relief on Thursday as they completed the last remaining II PU exam, English, after a delay of nearly three months. Students and officials wore masks, sanitised their hands and underwent mandatory temperature checks at over 1,000 exam centres across Karnataka. The CM shifted his official meetings to Vidhana Soudha Krishna as the home office of the CM has to be sanitised following suspicion of a Covid-19 positive case in a lady constable posted at the location. Her husband had tested positive. The female constable's report is awaited. In view of Covid-19, the government has issued an order giving absolute powers to chief minister BS Yediyurappa to handle general transfers — including those of police officers and teachers — for 2020-21. The government order (GO), however, says the CM should consider transfers only in “rare cases”. Stepping up precautionary measures against the pandemic after five of their employees tested positive, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is planning partitions inside buses to safeguard staff.
2MUMBAI The state government cautioned societies against imposing unnecessary restrictions even as BMC commissioner I S Chahal sought to rope in office-bearers of housing societies to implement social distancing norms. Even as the city’s Covid tally has crossed 60,000, there’s an encouraging sign: the average growth rate of positive cases has dipped to 2.3% from around 6.7% recorded on May 14. And among the wards recording the lowest growth rate of 1.2% was M-East, which includes the densely populated slum clusters of Govandi and Mankhurd. As pictures of overcrowding on some local trains went viral on social media, commuters have demanded better enforcement of social distancing norms to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus by increasing train frequency during peak hours and staggering office timings.
3DELHI Sample testing has been doubled immediately in pursuance of decisions taken by Home Minister Amit Shah in series of meetings. A total of testing samples of 27,263 have been collected in Delhi from 15 to 17 June 2020 against the daily collection which varied between 4,000-4,500 earlier. To provide relief to the common man in Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah constituted a committee under Member of NITI Aayog to fix rates charged by Pvt hospitals in Delhi for isolation beds, ICUs without ventilator support & ICUs with ventilator support: Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Around 20,000 samples were tested in Delhi yesterday, as per Delhi government sources.
4CHENNAI Slaughterhouses and meat shops within the limits of Greater Chennai Corporation will remain shut during the total lockdown from June 19-June 30, says the civic body Few are turning up at the temporary fish and vegetable market which has now been set up at the football ground in Shenoy Nagar, Chennai.
