NEW DELHI: The autofill feature is set to change on
for Android. According to news report in Chrome Story, "
is getting an improved autofill UI. The new layout will make it easy for you to choose from address and passwords etc that you have saved in Chrome."
Autofill is one of the most convenient and time-saving features of Chrome. In the current autofill UI, users see a pop-up from the text box with the available username/passwords. Once filled, it completes the rest of the details based on the option that the user chose. However, this autofill takes up a considerable portion of the screen. And users may not have a way way to use autofill information for the box they are filling in.
With the new UI, this comes in a bar that appears above the keyboard, in a horizontally scrollable list. As per the report, "Chrome now shows you three additional icons to choose autofill options. The first one, the lock symbol is for passwords, second, the card icon is for payment methods and the third, maps or balloon icon, is for addresses."
This means, post the update, Chrome will show users passwords, addresses, and payment methods that they have saved. They can also easily choose the address and the credit card they want to use. This can come in really handy for those who have multiple addresses or payment methods saved on Chrome. As it will save them a lot of time.
It will also be quite useful in case a user wants to mix and match portions of his/her addresse. Say, using regular shipping address but a different name or email address as Chrome autofills the form.
As for when th feature is likely to come, reports suggest that it may come by August with Chrome for Android version 85.
Late last month, Google rolled out new tools and gave a redesign to Chrome’s privacy and security settings on desktop. "With this redesign, we’ve made the controls even easier to find and understand," the company said in a blog post.
