NEW DELHI: The central government on Sunday filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court after responding to petitions seeking ex-gratia and compensation of Rs 4 lakhs to family members of deceased who died due to Covid-19.
The Centre informed the top court that it would not be able to give Rs 4 lakh compensation to kin of each person who died of Covid under the Disaster Management Act.
The government, however, made clear that it had already made payments and a lot of govt measures had been introduced for the needy persons.
The government in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court said that Union and state governments have spent huge amounts of money for needy persons to combat pandemic raging for over a year and that their finances are overstretched.
