JAMMU: An Army jawan was killed and another suffered injuries in a mine explosion along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to sources one jawan was killed, while another suffered injuries in an explosion that took place during an operation in forward areas along the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch on Saturday.
Confirming the fatality, PRO (defence) Lt Col Devender Anand said, "On the night of July 23, Sepoy Kamal Dev Vaidya was on an operational duty in Krishna Ghati Sector, district Poonch (J&K) and while moving he was critically injured in an accidental mine blast."
"He was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility but later succumbed to his injuries," Colonel Anand said.
Sepoy Kamal Dev Vaidya (27) belonged to village- Ghumarwin,P/O-Lag-Manwin, Bhoranj, district- Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, said Colonel Anand.
He is survived by his mother.
Sepoy Kamal Dev Vaidya was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier, said Colonel Anand.
He also said that the nation will always remain indebted to Vaidya for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty.
