Oscar-winning directors: They're just like us—bemused by Gen Z! In a tweet thread by The Film Stage, Alfonso Cuarón is seen sitting in the foreground of his daughter Tess's TikTok, quietly eating cereal as she dances. Watch the full clip below:

The 58-year-old Roma director is the father of two sons besides Tess, including director and Gravity co-screenwriter Jonás Cuarón, but anyone who's ever been—or lived in the proximity—a teenage girl knows the specific skill they have for making you feel ancient and wildly irrelevant when you're just trying to peacefully enjoy your breakfast. To Cuarón's credit, though, he looks unperturbed by his daughter's TikTok dance, almost as though he's been inured to any level of teenage distraction. The TikTok isn't Tess's first brush with fame—she appeared as a baby in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which her father directed—but over the years, she's clearly learned a thing or two about the power of performance. I can't explain why, but the TikTok makes me feel both deeply at peace and determined to buy my own dad something nice for Father's Day this year.

First it was the boomers, but now, not even millennials are safe from the scathing comedy of Gen Z. A thread of TikTok comments that recently went viral was full of Gen Z scorn, including the immortal insult, "[Millennials are] worried about their harry potter house but they live in a 1 bedroom apartment....y'all worried about the wrong houses." So, in a sense, things could be much worse for Cuarón: His teenage daughter could be ruthlessly mocking him to his face, instead of dancing behind his back.
