Hummus, a rich dip made of chickpeas and blending them with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and salt. The iconic spread's full name in Arabic is ‘hummus bil tahina’ which translates to ‘chickpeas with tahini’. Hummus paired with pita bread is the ideal combo for savoury snack, however, it can be be paired with chips, fries, or used as a sandwich spread and is easy to make. Vogue spoke to chef Sagar Bajaj, culinary head at First Fiddle, the company behind some  to share easy recipes from the classic Israeli hummus to an experimental version created with Nutella that you can make at home in simple steps. 

1. Recipe: Classic Israeli hummusIngredients: 

400gm cooked chickpeas, drained

3 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp tahini

Juice of 1 lemon

3-4 garlic cloves, peeled

Pinch of sea salt

1 cup ice

Method:

Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor, apart from the ice.

Blend until smooth and creamy, adding the ice little by little until you reach your desired consistency.

Garnish with chickpeas and olive oil

2. Recipe: Black chickpea hummus Ingredients: 

400gm cooked black chickpeas, drained

5 tbsp olive oil

3 tbsp tahini

Juice of 1 lemon

6-8 garlic cloves, peeled

Pinch of sea salt

1 cup ice

Method:

Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor, apart from the ice.

Blend until smooth and creamy, adding the ice little by little until you reach your desired consistency.

Garnish with chickpea and olive oil

3. Recipe: Classic Israeli hummus with a twist of fresh jalapeños and citrusMethod:

400gm cooked chickpeas, drained

3 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp tahini

Juice of 1 lemon

3-4 garlic cloves, peeled

Pinch of sea salt

1 cup ice

For jalapeños and lemon twist:

2 jalapeños

½ cup lemon juice

¼ cup water

2 garlic cloves

Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor, apart from the ice.

Blend until smooth and creamy, adding the ice little by little until you reach your desired consistency.

Jalapeños and citrus twist:

Slice jalapeños as thin as possible.

Muddle or crush garlic using a mortar pestle.

Add lemon, water, jalapeños, and garlic season it with salt and pepper as per taste

Mix it with hummus and enjoy with pitta.

Garnish with jalapeños and chickpeas.

4. Recipe: Green gram hummus 

300gm cooked green gram, drained

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp desi ghee (clarified butter)

1 tbsp fresh turmeric

½ tbsp tahini

Juice of 1 lemon

½ tsp of roasted cumin

Pinch of sea salt

½ cup ice

Method:

Heat up the pan add desi ghee. Add turmeric to pan cook it for 1 min on medium heat.

Add green grams and mix them well and take it of the heat

Cool down the green grams for 20 mins

And then simply add all of the ingredients into a food processor, apart from the ice

Blend until smooth and creamy, adding the ice little by little until you reach your desired consistency.

Garnish with cumin and some boiled green gram.

5. Recipe: Kidney beans and Nutella hummusIngredients: 

300gm cooked kidney beans, cold and drained

2 tbsp sesame oil

1 tbsp Nutella or hazelnut spread

1 tbsp icing sugar

2 tsp Carmel sauce

Pinch of sea salt

½ cup ice

Method:

Add all of the ingredients into a food processor, apart from the ice and blend it.

Blend until smooth and creamy, adding the ice little by little until you reach your desired consistency.

Garnish with sea salt and Kit Kat crunch.

Enjoy it with fresh fruits or pound cake slice as a dessert.
