Earlier this year, after seeing removable collars come down the Fall runways at Erdem, JW Anderson, and Ganni, my colleague, Senior Fashion News writer Brooke Bobb, predicted that 2020 would be a banner year for the accessory. One thing we couldn’t have predicted however, is how much time we would really be spending on Zoom this year capturing our lifeless outfits on our webcams and broadcasting them across our colleagues’, friends’, and family’s screens. Luckily for us, the bold accessory trend has surely taken off, and added some vigor to our wardrobes.

Wearing a blouse or sweater affixed with a dramatic, lace or ruffled collar brings your look to the next level, and might even earn a delightful compliment or two. For those who want to make less of an obvious statement, there are white blouses with Victorian-inspired floppy crochet or lace collars, as well as those that pop in contrast atop dainty black sweaters and cardigans. In fact, one of the layered collars crafted from New York-based brand Sea was inspired by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose defining fashion statement was her lace collars.

For those who don’t want an overly formal option, don’t fret. You can still don one of these Zoom-worthy tops while staying comfortable, thanks to H&M, who has brought the lace collar to a crewneck sweatshirt, and Ganni, who has fastened theirs to a cozy, oversized cardigan. After a summer of using brightly colored, printed tops to liven up your on-screen wardrobe, let these statement collar shirts, blouses, and sweaters be your work from home wardrobe heroes for fall. To look the part on your next Zoom call or fall outing, find 15 statement collar shirts at every price below.
