Radhika Apte has always kept it real, and she doubles down on this philosophy through her Instagram photos. “Beauty should be about being happy and natural, rather than being posed and pretentious. Our relationship with it has evolved. It’s no longer about conceding to a stereotype but a celebration of one’s self. Beauty, however we choose to define it, belongs to us,” she shared with Vogue India. Ahead, we round up ten of the best makeup, skincare and wellness tips that she's shared with her fans on Instagram.

1) Staying hydrated is so important

Apte has always talked about how drinking water is the best beauty trick ever. “Water is the best to hydrate from within. If it’s too hot, I’ll have coconut or lemon water,” she stated. These beverages are ideal for replenishing electrolytes, making them a great addition to your daily routine, especially when the temps rise.

2) Adding hydration topically to your skin is key too

While drinking water is key, applying a moisturiser or hydrator to your skin will keep it supple and bouncy. “When I was little, my mother first introduced me to the importance of moisturised skin. It’s the one beauty step I practise religiously in the morning and at night. Hydration is important for maintaining healthy skin," Apte explains. Her pick? A jelly moisturiser that balances the skin without feeling too greasy. Even when she's applying makeup, Apte likes to “mix a little moisturiser with foundation” to leave her with a sun-kissed glow.

3) DIY hair masks are the perfect fix for problem tresses

Since she has to get her hair heat-styled so often, Radhika Apte knows the importance of caring for her strands as much as possible. First up? “I’ve been drinking amla juice since it’s good for hair,” she reveals. Hair masks and oil massages are also a must-have, as they improve elasticity and strengthen strands. “Beer and eggs make for good hair masks. My mother used to oil my hair and she sometimes even used hibiscus gel on my scalp.”

4) Chopping dead ends will always help

Apte surprised fans by cutting her strands into a bob with face-framing layers while in lockdown in May 2020. She'd hinted at it earlier, posting a photo of her long strands and writing about how bleached they'd gotten. While moisturising and strengthening hair is important, the actor knows that starting from scratch is sometimes your best bet.

5) Supplements can be a good idea

While she eats balanced meals, Radhika Apte likes to supplement her diet with antioxidants and vitamins that are good for her skin, hair and overall wellness. “I supplement my diet with flaxseed powder, probiotics, and Vitamin C and B12,” she shared. Flaxseed powder and probiotics can improve digestion and boost gut health, while the latter are necessary for healthy nerve tissue and brain function.

6) Make a balanced plate for all your meals…

Eating proteins, fats, carbohydrates and green/leafy vegetables provides the nutrients you need, and Apte keeps that in mind while planning her meals. “I have eggs, fruits or oats for breakfast. Lunch is dal, roti and vegetables. Dinner is either the same, or grilled fish."

7) …But allow for indulgences too

While Radhika Apte is careful about eating clean most of the time, she likes to indulge in her favourite foods too. “I don’t follow any drastic diets. I eat everything in moderation and try to maintain a healthy balance. If I am indulging or spending a few days at home, then I eat absolutely everything I want," she once said. Nutritionists say that eating intuitively, without severe restrictions on what you consume, is key to maintaining a healthy relationship with food. “I have stopped eating potato chips and wafers because I think they are too addictive. I snack on nuts. Still, I cannot give up banana chips.”

8) Find activities that serve as self-care

With a busy travel and shooting schedule, this star knows that the key to keeping her energy up is to find some downtime. To unwind, Apte likes to “watch films and TV series, read books and meet friends.” But when she really needs to relax, a Balinese body massage is her go-to. It reduces muscle tension, improves circulation and boosts lymphatic drainage too.

9) Switch up your workouts for best results

If you get bored with regular gym workouts, take inspiration from Radhika Apte and try switching it with workouts that'll get you out of your comfort zone. “I alternate between yoga, running and swimming,” she once said. This helps you work different parts of your body and prevent muscle soreness too.

10) When it comes to makeup, pick a feature you love and enhance it

Radhika Apte keeps her makeup looks very relaxed, preferring to let her glowy skin show through. “I am in love with the natural beauty trend. I moisturise and use a lip balm for a flush of colour," she says. But when she's on the red carpet, she doesn't mind dressing it up a little—even adding a power red lip. “When you have a bright, bold lipstick on, you don't really need anything else."
